Sisterhood is a group of women dedicated to the well-being of Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills. We quietly work behind the scenes to accomplish much of what is taken for granted, but contributes greatly to the vibrancy of our community.
Funded the construction of the kitchen?
Contributes to the general fund which in turn supports the Hebrew School?
Provides gifts to our bar and bat mitvahs?
Prepares the Kiddush on Shabbat?
Offers programs at no charge?
Also, we are an affiliate of the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, which Mathilde Roth Schecter, wife of Solomon Schecter, founded in 1918 for the purpose of helping young immigrant women adjust to life in the United States. Today, while still addressing the needs of Jewish women, it has become a major source of support for the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York and the Masorti movement in Israel. Please visit www.wlcj.org for more information about this great organization.
Our annual dues of $36.00 supports both CBSBH and WLCJ.
There is no time commitment to be a Sisterhood member unless you are on the board of directors. Otherwise, just attend the programs that interest you. Our programs have included music with the Lin-David family; speakers such as Joanna Weiss on politics and Deborah Milbaur on why she participated in the women’s march on Washington; a fashion show with Caryn’s Corner of Quincy and trivia with Joel Krensky.
Please join Sisterhood at no cost for the remainder of 2017. Contact the office for more information or to join. Dues notices will be sent out in the fall for 2018. You’ll find that you get a lot for about 10 cents a day!
