Why should you support our project?
We are appealing for funds to enable us to move our Holocaust memorial window to our new building.
It was commissioned to honor the memory of the six million Jews, murdered by the Nazis during WWII, simply because they were Jewish.
The Holocaust Memorial Window is a way to ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust are not forgotten for future generations.
Once installed, this window will be a centerpiece for Holocaust education to the greater community, as a way to promote understanding between Jews and those of other faiths.
Our History
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, a group of Jewish families, many of whom were World War II veterans, raised funds and built a small one-story building, Temple Shalom of Milton. The Milton Temple grew and expanded, as did many Jewish congregations in the surrounding areas of Milton, Quincy, and Boston.
Over the next 60 years, these Jewish communities flourished but eventually, as many of the older pioneers passed, and others moved away, membership declined. These smaller congregations were now left with buildings that needed constant and expensive maintenance.
As a result, Temple Shalom of Milton, Temple Adas Shalom of Quincy and Temple Beth El of Quincy sold their buildings. Eventually, these three congregations merged to form the new Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills.

After 5 years without a permanent home, long time Milton residents Andrea and Marvin Gordon generously donated land and we were finally able to build a new Temple: Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills in Milton, an egalitarian, multigenerational congregation that welcomes diversity, spirituality and community. Our community has a vibrant membership and growing religious school, and we are heavily involved in outreach, social justice, and interfaith work.

As yet, we have not been able to afford to move the Holocaust memorial window from the old Temple Shalom building in Milton to its new home. It is being cared for in its original location, by our friends, and the building’s new owners, Concord Baptist Church.

In these days of nationalism, anti-immigrant rhetoric and holocaust denial, we feel it is more important than ever to remember the atrocities of the past, in order to say NEVER AGAIN.
